About 15 years ago, I left for college in San Diego, 2,000 miles away from home, when my Dad was in the final month of his life. He was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer 3 months earlier. I said goodbye to my dad for the last time, my heartbroken mom doing her best to keep it all together, and our family home and land that was being sold off to the highest bidder. I felt like my heart was being ripped from my chest. I felt like I was losing every sense of the word “home” in that moment. For the next few years, I walked through life plagued by an incurable feeling of being "homesick." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And then one day, while traveling in South America, I discovered meditation. In those moments of silence, I felt home again, even for just a moment. I’d feel the warmth of love, the comfort of trust, and the sense of being held by something so much greater than myself. And I’d remember. As women healers, coaches and service providers there is often a pervasive belief that it is somehow less honorable or virtuous to be generously compensated for our work. Like it’s ok to struggle personally in the realm of money as long as you are helping someone else flourish in their heath or life. Like your sacrifice is necessary for someone else’s success. And, along the way, we may even dissociate from our deeper yearning to experience all of life’s abundance because our struggle and disempowerment around money has become too painful to feel. And in shutting down our desire we rob ourselves of the fuel for creating transformation in this area. We stay stuck as the gap between the life we deeply desire and the life we currently have becomes even bigger. When we are burnt out and depleted, we may experience unconscious blocks to attracting more clients as a form of self-protection and self-preservation. We may believe we want more clients, but our unconscious mind can sabotage even the best of our mind-generated goals and intentions. In order to be fully open to receiving more client flow, we need to feel energetically open to it. So take the time to truly replenish and nourish yourself. We can open the heart space with yoga and movement in nature, ground the energy with mindful pure nourishment, and clear the heart-mind with meditation. When we take time to fill up, we can give of our surplus and not of our sustenance. Others have created a pattern of invisibility and hiding early on as a survival and coping strategy. And yet, there comes a time, when we recognize that our old structures of being in the world are no longer congruent with our Soul’s calling and we feel ready to shed the protective mechanisms of our past to dance our way towards the creation of our deepest dreams and desires. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want to remind you to be gentle with the learning process as you courageously start to presence and share of yourself. It’s ok, and expected, to feel awkward and clumsy as you begin to show up in a new way. It won’t be perfect and there may be moments when you turn people off, or miss the mark and hear crickets, or create an undesired reaction, but it’s all an important part of the learning process. When we show up to our purpose from a place of deep inner congruency, connection, presence, openness, and creativity we are able to spread our message out in the world in a way that feels pure and authentic. If we neglect to nourish ourselves deeply, to rest, and replenish, then we won’t have the basic energy to carry out the actions of the will. Life becomes dry, lacking in pleasure, play, and delight, and then eventually we burn out completely. Self Care and Nourishment are powerful entry points for rooting, grounding, and getting present in the here and the now. This element of presence is the core of a magnetic business. I know you’ve felt it before – the draw to a leader who is truly in her essence, leading through loving presence, walking her talk and radiating her truth through her way of being in the world.
